I am new at bookkeeping and need this info. Thanks. ML

In a list of credit card numbers, looking at the first 4 digits of any of them, which is Visa, M/C or Amex ?
American Express begins with a 3

Visa begins with a 4

MasterCard begins with a 5

Discover card begins with a 6

The second, third, and fourth digit tell which bank has issued the card.
Reply:visa always begins with the number 4

mastercard always begins with the number 5

AMEX will start with the number 3

discover starts with 6
Reply:visas start with a 4...

mastercards with a 5

discover with a 6

amex usually has different starting numbers...but the first group of numbers is not done in a group of 4...it is usually 5 or 6

hope this helps..

i have been a cashier for 25 years.....and learned this myself

The first digit in your credit-card number signifies the system:

3 - travel/entertainment cards (such as American Express and Diners Club)

4 - Visa

5 - MasterCard

6 - Discover Card
